Pair of Monumental Forged Iron Floor Candleholders, Portugal, 1970s

A monumental pair of hand-forged iron floor candleholders of exceptional scale. Rising to 175 cm, they possess an almost architectural presence, introducing rhythm, height, and structure to a space with remarkable restraint. Defined by slender vertical lines and elegantly drawn scrolls, they balance geometric discipline with the expressive character of hand-forged iron. Created in Portugal during the 1970s, they capture a moment when traditional craftsmanship began to embrace a more sculptural and forward-looking language, anticipating the formal vocabulary of postmodern design. Rare in both scale and presence, they transform the surrounding space, functioning as freestanding sculptures as much as candleholders.
