Pair of Italian "Triangle" Aluminium Catch-alls, 1980s

Italy, 1980s. Cast aluminium then gave rise to sculptural pieces with taut lines, halfway between the utilitarian object and sculpture. This pair of "Triangle" catch-alls is a fine example — all the more sought-after for having remained complete. Each piece unfolds a triangular form with tapered points and a gently hollowed surface, resting on a discreet central foot. The two echo and nest into one another, revealing a play of curves and reflections. The raw metal, patinated by time, shifts between grey and silver. Beautiful patina of use: the interior shows light surface scratches — aluminium marks easily, especially when the two triangles are nested — nothing jarring or structural. A well-preserved set. At 53 cm long by 23.5 cm wide and 9 cm high each, these catch-alls make a statement on a console, a large table or an entryway, as a duo or apart. A graphic set with strong sculptural presence.
