David Marshall Brutalist Empty-Pocket

A cast metal empty-pocket by David Marshall, defined by a low, sculptural form and a clear horizontal division in material. The lower body is left in raw aluminium, while the upper section transitions into warm brass, creating a distinct shift in tone and weight across the object. The form is built from softly rounded volumes, almost segmented at the base, with an irregular, hand-finished edge that breaks the symmetry. Typical of Marshall’s work, the piece sits between functional object and small-scale sculpture, with the casting process left visible rather than refined away.
